Album Review: Y’anna Crawley “The Promise”

Sunday Best’s Season 2 winner, Y’anna Crawley, has released her debut album The Promise. After almost two years of anticipation, The Promise is sure to prove why Miss Crawley snatched the Sunday Best title.
The record starts out with a funky track entitled “I Believe” then followed by the very inspirational title track “The Promise”. In this song Y’anna tells a bit of her story  and then helps us all relate to the song with her intimate lyrics. “Stronger” is the third track on the album where Y’anna tells her testimony of getting pregnant at 17 years old and how it helped build her. “Lookin’ Toward Heaven” is a soulful track that can minister to anyone in doubt and with “You’re Still God” following, any burdened spirit listening, will be lifted. The Bill Withers classic “Grandma’s Hands” made the album as the sixth track. You might remember the song from when Y’anna performed it on Sunday Best “. “Well Done” is a beautiful, soul stirring ballad to God on trying to improve and live a life that is pleasing in His sight. “Right Now” and “I’m Blessed” (tracks 8 and 9) are “feel good” jams that are sure to get you dancing. And the album closes with “Worship Song” which is just that. The very heartfelt lyrics tap into the hearts of all worshipers declaring an immeasurable love for God.
All in all, the album is beautiful; and you’re going to want these 10 songs on your iPod, in your car, in your house or wherever else you might be.

Not My Will

I recently graduated from college. At first, I was thoroughly excited; no more reading books that I didn’t want to read, no more writing papers about topics I didn’t care about, no more all-nighters studying for finals…this was pure bliss! However, soon after the excitement faded, I asked myself, “What’s next?”

Frantically, I realized that REAL LIFE IS BEGINNING! I started to make lists of exactly what I needed to do: get a job, get a car, begin saving for future endeavors, etc. As I proceeded with the first item on my list, I thought it was most logical to apply to jobs in public relations/marketing, considering this was the route I wanted to take. After applying to numerous jobs, I realized I was getting NO call backs or interviews.Disappointed and frustrated, I began to pray and fast about the issue. During this time, Proverbs 3:5-6 continuously came to mind.

I Choose To Be Different

Many of us do things just because others do it and because it “looks” cool. We don’t want to be seen as social outcasts. It’s funny because we should want to be seen as different. Often times we don’t want to feel rejection so much that we dress like the world, talk like the world, walk like the world…and just act worldly in general, but it’s time out for that. Being different shows that you’re not a clone (the word I use for people who act like everybody else). Time to stand out….and choose to be different!

Most importantly, God wants us to be different from the world. As christians, we have to remember that this earth is not our home and we have to keep that in mind when we go to the world’s parties. Furthermore, doing other things that God would not condone us taking part in (if you do that kind of stuff).

Single Spotlight: Rashad McPherson “He Made Me Well”

“He Made Me Well” is a catchy and uplifting track that solidifies a positive outlook on who God has made you to be. Full of energy, the music makes you want to engage in the song, alongside easy lyrics you find yourself singing with it immediately. Acknowledging the awesomeness of God’s creations, which should inspire us all to feel better about who we are. It also encourages you to strive for purpose in life because he made us well. So go and proclaim what the lord has done for you and praise him for it. I love this guys vocals, every time I hear this song the energy is evident and I’m impressed with lead and BGVs. Melodies left and right, this song is full of awesome musicianship and great vocal arrangement. I love finding new artist and featuring them on the site and when I hear great music I feel as if I have to run to tell somebody. So I hope you guys enjoy the single as I did and check out the track below. You can also head to iTunes to preview the rest of this young man’s album. Album Favorites: VaShawn Mitchell “Triumphant”

Vashawn Mitchell is the type of artist that you will wait in extreme anticipation to hear what new music he has to deliver. The man has been writing hits since the beginning and doesn’t seem to be heading into any kind of decline. Many are familiar with his previous work and his latest album surely keeps the momentum going. The single “Nobody Greater” has been a hit since it hit the gospel scene. With great radio play and loads of attention it was clear that VaShawn was ready to deliever on this latest project. On our Single Spotlight we featured that track and it is one of our most popular post ever! Everyday people visit this site and leave comments on how the song was a blessing and an encouragement to their lives. Thats the purpose of Gospel music in my opinion. If you are not making any sort of impact, then your music may not be affective. Gospel artist are in the life changing business, where your words and music are suppose to carry weight wherever they may go. You should feel compelled to change or do better, encouraged and inspired to strive harder, and to me thats what VaShawn’s music does best. Some of my favortie tracks from “Triumphant” are Chasing after you and Conqueror. If you want to hear Nobody Greater click the “Single Spotlight” link in this post. We also have the video performance as well if you CLICK HERE. However I want you to hear some songs that haven’t made it to radio yet. If you listen to them and havent bought the album yet, you will. These are some of my favorite and I hope you enjoy them too. Let us know what you think with feedback and comments!

Center Stage: Tasha Cobbs

Tasha Cobbs is a Georgia native, born and raised where she discovered and then molded her gift of music. Under the leadership of Pastor William Murphy she has blossomed into a voice that will cause anyone to stop and listen. She has a strong sound that projects with power and authority, declaring worship whenever she sings. Her voice may be familiar to you from the song “Chasing After You”, which has become wildly popular in the gospel scene. However that song is just the beginning for this singer as her new album “Smile” will make the world more aware of her gift and anointing. “Smile” is the type of album that really is full as oppose to some albums you hear, with a few nice songs but then no other substance. However, in Tasha’s case from beginning to end she brings you in and leaves you wanting more. I remember when I first heard “Happy”, I immediately bought the album. No need to preview the rest just go out and buy it, is what I told myself. I’m glad that I did too because I was not disappointed. However I’m going to let Tasha’s music speak for itself and just refer you to a few tracks below so you can attest for yourself. A few of my favorite tracks are ofcourse “Happy”, and then I really enjoyed “I Trust You” and “All Day” which she performed with her Pastor William Murphy. Without further delay I invite you to check out 2 songs from the album below and let us know what you think! Twitter – @tashacobbs , Official Site – tashacobbs.org
